Q.  This is a CT reconstructed image of a 4 year old MC chihuahua who was found laterally recumbent after being attacked by a larger dog.  He is non-ambulatory tetraparetic with neck pain, diminished biceps reflexes in the thoracic limbs, and evidence of bite wounds and swelling over the dorsal cervical area.  What is your diagnosis?

A.  A trauma-induced compression fracture is present affecting the dorsal lamina of the 5^th cervical vertebra with fragments displaced into the spinal canal on the cranial aspect.   There is additional subcutaneous emphysema appreciated in the dorsal cervical musclature and subcutaneous tissues.
