This is a ring-enhancing lesion in the rostral brainstem.  Differentials for ring-enhancement can be remembered with “MAGIC DR”

M:  metastatic lesions

A:  abscess

G:  glial cell tumor

I:   infarct (subacute)

C:  cystic lesion (including cytic meningioma and other tumors) or resolving contusion

D:  demyelination

R:  radiation necrosis

 

HIV in humans include:  lymphoma or toxoplasma
